Jie Delights!

We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Jie Delights! is a playful trio of sprites who draw old and young alike into the spirit of celebration and dance. Since 1999, we have been performing for festivals, lantern processions, community events and private parties. Jie Delights! is a whirlwind of colour, an invitation to play, a reminder of the child in all of us.

Dance Styles

The sprites leap and twirl, stand stalk still as statues, fly with their feathered feet, pound out a rhythmic, pulsing pattern and bestow wishes on their watchers. Drawing on the intensive and varied training of each of the dancers, the trio brings together modern and improvisational dance and movement with a highly attuned sense of attention to their audience. They animate outdoor drum circles and processions, join hands in faerie circles with diminutive dancers, create mimetic tableaux while balanced on boulders or bridges and dance sinuously through parties and gala events.

Costumes

Jie Delights! is a splash of flying colour:we are the yellow sprite, the purple sprite and the fuchsia sprite. Over our full-length shiny skin-tight suits, decorated with feathers and jewels, each performer adds accessories according to her sprite colour and according to the ambiance of the event. At outdoor summer festivals, we attach long, flowing scarves that blow in the wind and look like wings or veils and we become a blur of moving colour against green grass or reflected in the water of a lake. At New Years and other nighttime celebrations, we have sparkly, glittery wigs and sequined masks. At galas, we put on our feather masks, feathered arm and ankle cuffs and tails. For rainy weather, we have our Jie umbrellas to brighten the day:yellow, purple and fuchsia!
